Upgrading Your Plan

How to upgrade from Free to Starter or Pro.

Upgrading takes about 30 seconds and unlocks your new features immediately. BorrowerDocs uses Stripe for all payment processing — your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on BorrowerDocs servers.

How to upgrade

  1. Click your name in the bottom-left of the sidebar
  2. Select Billing from the dropdown
  3. Choose Monthly or Annual billing (annual saves ~17%)
  4. Find the plan you want and click Upgrade Your Plan
  5. Complete checkout in the Stripe-hosted payment page
  6. You're redirected back to BorrowerDocs when done

Your new plan activates the moment checkout completes. Refresh the page if a feature isn't showing yet.

Choosing monthly vs. annual

Monthly Annual
Starter $19/mo $190/yr (saves $38)
Pro $49/mo $490/yr (saves $98)
Commitment Cancel any time Paid upfront for the year
Best for Trying a plan out When you're sure it's a fit

You can switch between monthly and annual at any time after upgrading — see Managing Your Subscription.

What unlocks immediately

Upgrading to Starter

  • 10 active loan files — you can create up to 10 open files
  • All template packs — Self-Employed and Bank Statement are unlocked in the New Loan File form
  • Premium branding — logo, brand color, NMLS line, and portal intro text in Settings → Branding

Upgrading to Pro

Everything in Starter, plus:

  • 50 active loan files
  • Custom templates — create and manage your own checklist templates
  • Automatic reminders — enable 24h, 72h, and weekly borrower emails in Settings → Notifications

Upgrading from Starter to Pro

The process is the same — go to Billing, click Upgrade Your Plan on the Pro card. Stripe calculates the prorated difference and charges only for the remaining time in your current billing period. You don't lose any days.

Upgrade prompts in the app

Several places in BorrowerDocs show inline upgrade prompts when you try to use a feature that's not on your current plan:

Where What triggers it
New Loan File form Selecting Self-Employed or Bank Statement on Free plan
Settings → Branding Clicking premium branding fields on Free plan
Settings → Notifications Trying to change reminder settings on Free/Starter
Templates page When no custom templates exist on Free/Starter

Each prompt links directly to the Billing page with the relevant plan pre-selected.

After upgrading

You don't need to do anything to activate features — they unlock automatically. Here's what to do first after upgrading to each plan:

After upgrading to Starter:

  1. Go to Settings → Branding and upload your logo and set your brand color
  2. Add your NMLS / License Line if required
  3. Update the Borrower Portal Intro text

After upgrading to Pro:

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications and confirm your reminder preferences
  2. Go to Templates to build your first custom checklist template
