Managing Your Subscription
Update payment methods, change billing intervals, and cancel your subscription.
After your initial subscription, you can manage everything from the Billing page — change your plan, switch billing intervals, update your payment method, or cancel. Most actions are handled through the Stripe Customer Portal, which opens in a new tab.
Go to Billing by clicking your name in the bottom-left sidebar and selecting Billing.
Viewing your current plan
The top of the Billing page shows your current subscription details:
| Label | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Plan | Your plan name and status (Active, Past Due, etc.) |
| Billing | Monthly or Annual |
| Next renewal | The date your subscription renews and you'll be charged |
| Auto-renewal | On (renews automatically) or Off (cancels at period end) |
| Includes | Your active file limit and template access |
Changing billing interval (monthly ↔ annual)
You can switch between monthly and annual billing at any time.
Switching to Annual:
- On the Billing page, set the toggle to Annual
- Find your current plan and click Switch to Annual
- Complete checkout in Stripe — you'll be charged the annual price immediately
- Your monthly subscription is canceled and replaced with the annual one
Switching to Monthly:
- Set the toggle to Monthly
- Find your current plan and click Switch to Monthly
- This opens the Stripe Customer Portal where you can make the change
- The switch takes effect at the end of your current billing period
Upgrading your plan
See Upgrading Your Plan for the full flow. In short: go to Billing, select the plan you want, and click Upgrade Your Plan. You're charged the prorated difference for the rest of your billing period.
Downgrading your plan
Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access to your current plan's features until then.
To downgrade, click Downgrade Your Plan on the lower-tier plan card. This opens the Stripe Customer Portal. The downgrade is scheduled and you'll see a confirmation.
What happens to your data when downgrading:
| Downgrading from | To | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Pro → Starter | Starter | Custom templates remain but you can't create new ones. Reminders stop. |
| Pro or Starter → Free | Free | Files over the 1-file limit remain accessible; you can't create new ones until you're within the limit. Premium branding settings are saved but hidden in the portal. |
Nothing is deleted — your data is preserved if you re-upgrade later.
Updating your payment method
Click Manage billing on the Billing page to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can:
- Add or replace a credit/debit card
- Update billing address
- Download past invoices and receipts
The Manage billing button is visible whenever you have an active Stripe subscription or customer record.
Canceling your subscription
To cancel:
- Click Manage billing on the Billing page
- In the Stripe Customer Portal, find the cancellation option
- Confirm the cancellation
After canceling:
- You keep access to your paid plan features through the end of the current billing period
- After the period ends, your account reverts to the Free plan (1 active file, W2 template only)
- Your data is preserved — existing loan files, templates, and borrower uploads are not deleted
- You can re-subscribe at any time to regain access to paid features
Your Billing page will show Auto-renewal: Off — cancels at period end after you cancel, so you can confirm the cancellation took effect.
Subscription statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | Subscription is current and features are fully available |
| Trialing | In a free trial period |
| Past due | Payment failed; subscription may be suspended if not resolved |
| Paused | Subscription is paused |
| Canceled | Subscription was canceled; reverts to Free at period end |
| Unpaid | Invoice remains unpaid; access may be restricted |
If your subscription shows Past due or Unpaid, click Manage billing to update your payment method. Stripe retries failed payments automatically.
